BFLC Tier 1 Pathway
Compete. Develop. Excel.
At Burnaby Field Lacrosse Club, we are committed to providing opportunities for athletes to develop, compete, and reach their full potential.
For players seeking the highest level of field lacrosse competition available within British Columbia, BFLC is proud to offer a Tier 1 pathway.
Tier 1 is designed for athletes who are committed to challenging themselves, competing against top players, and pursuing advanced development opportunities while representing Burnaby Field Lacrosse Club.
What is Tier 1?
Tier 1 represents the highest level of competition available within the Pacific Coast Field Lacrosse League (PCFLL).
These teams compete against the strongest players and programs across British Columbia and may pursue Provincial Championship opportunities.
Tier 1 participation requires a higher level of commitment, preparation, effort, and competitiveness from both players and families.
Who Should Attend Tier 1 Evaluations?
Tier 1 evaluations are intended for athletes who:
Have previous lacrosse experience
Possess strong foundational lacrosse skills
Enjoy competing at a high level
Are committed to regular practices, games, and team activities
Want to challenge themselves against top competition
Are interested in pursuing advanced development opportunities
While all players are valued members of BFLC, Tier 1 evaluations are specifically designed for athletes seeking placement on a Tier 1 team.
Players who are newer to the sport or still developing their skills may find greater success and enjoyment through one of our developmental team pathways.
Many successful Tier 1 athletes began their journey on developmental teams before progressing through the competitive pathway.
Evaluation Philosophy
BFLC is committed to providing a fair, transparent, and development-focused evaluation process.
Our evaluations are designed to identify athletes who demonstrate the skills, athleticism, competitiveness, lacrosse IQ, and coachability required to compete successfully at the Tier 1 level.
The goal is not simply to identify the best players today, but to identify athletes who demonstrate the ability and commitment to continue developing throughout the season.
What Evaluators Look For
Athletes may be evaluated on:
Lacrosse IQ
Stick Skills
Athleticism
Competitiveness
Team Play
Offensive Ability
Defensive Ability
Decision Making
Work Ethic
Coachability
One of the most important qualities evaluators look for is coachability — the ability to listen, learn, apply feedback, and contribute positively to a team environment.
Independent Evaluators
Whenever possible, BFLC will utilize independent evaluators to support a fair and objective evaluation process.
These evaluators may include:
Coaches from outside BFLC
Provincial Team coaches
Junior and Senior players
NCAA athletes
Experienced lacrosse evaluators
Coaches from other age divisions
The use of independent evaluators helps promote consistency, transparency, and fairness throughout the selection process.
Player Conduct Expectations
Tier 1 athletes are expected to demonstrate not only skill and competitiveness, but also sportsmanship, respect, leadership, and character.
BFLC maintains a zero-tolerance approach toward behaviour that compromises the safety of participants or negatively impacts the evaluation environment.
Players are expected to:
Respect teammates, coaches, officials, volunteers, and opponents
Demonstrate good sportsmanship
Follow instructions from evaluators and coaches
Represent BFLC positively both on and off the field
Athlete behaviour and attitude are considered part of the evaluation process.
Our Commitment
BFLC believes every athlete deserves the opportunity to develop, compete, and enjoy the game at a level appropriate to their ability, commitment, and goals.
Our Tier 1 pathway is designed to provide meaningful opportunities for athletes pursuing the highest levels of field lacrosse while supporting the long-term growth and success of Burnaby Field Lacrosse Club.
Whether a player earns a Tier 1 roster position, continues development on another team, or is new to the sport, every athlete remains an important part of our Club.
Success is measured not only by wins and losses, but by athlete development, positive experiences, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of the game.
